Mental health has been stigmatized for years, and with the onset of Covid-19, further awareness surrounding mental wellness is crucial. Austin Johnson, the founder of Run For Your Life, has been through the mental struggle and knows firsthand the battle of depression’s lasting impacts on mental and physical health. Kicking off Run For Your Life with a remarkable 24-hour run himself to raise awareness about suicide prevention, Johnson finds running as an outlet promoting wellness and balance in his life. Run for your life in Lake Stevens at the second annual suicide awareness run, raising money for a fantastic cause this August 2022.

Join Run For Your Life on August 13 for their second annual suicide awareness walk and run at the Mill in Lake Stevens. Kicking off at 8:30 a.m., begin the morning with beautiful views of Lake Stevens as you walk or run one mile, 5K, or 10K. Following the run, there will be food, live music, shopping and fellowship with guest speakers. Mental health organizations will be present at the event, as well as local market and food vendors, games, a beer garden, and more. All proceeds for this event will go towards education efforts, mental health resources, after-school running programs and financial scholarships for students.

“Our community has been greatly affected by suicide. The pains stretch deep and wide within our neighborhoods, schools and businesses. Through physical wellness, community support, fellowship and with your support, we know we can make a meaningful change in our community, one stride at a time.” Take part in an amazing cause this summer and run into action, raising awareness and local support for mental health and suicide prevention.

Running for a Cause

It all started with a mission to increase suicide prevention awareness and open a dialogue for mental health, with a goal to raise $2,000 by running for 24 hours straight to donate to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. Not only exceeding this goal tremendously, but Austin Johnson has also founded the Run For Your Life Foundation, a Washington State registered non-profit organization. “To run for your life is as much an everyday loved experience as it is a physical act of exertion. Running is our outward response to the inward feelings we process. We are here to provide testimony, support and a platform for those suffering with mental illness, that they too can continue to press forward.”
